11/27/2023 0 Comments War thunder submarines![]() ![]() They've been in a bad place ever since they were implemented. Unfortunately, mechanics based on teamwork or certain players doing their job. In any case, they need to do better than floating towards and fighting over imaginary circles. I personally don't think many people would play a convoy hunting mode since so few people play naval as it is, but who knows. A separate convoy hunting mode would be fine, but dumping submarines into naval battles as they exist now would almost certainly end badly. Now you mention it, I wouldn't actually mind a convoy hunting mode, subs could fit there. If anything it would just make people work together for once, where in most modes they don't. It actually shocks me people would ever want to go against it, attempting to block it's implementation, especially with the clear potential fun that could be had. Naval is already an extremely slow and calculated mode, adding subs wont make the mode die, that seems far fetched. ESPECIALLY in EC, playing as or playing against subs is a prospect many many people want, and not just out of blind excitement. I do not think you are being open minded. You can also see torpedos on the surface of the water and perhaps they could make it even more visible when its a sub for balance if there was an issue. This can be balanced with things like torpedo nets and players in sub chasers actually doing their jobs. Many are not used for their intended purpose and just deathmatch here instead. My point was, like I said, this applies to many vehicles in WT. I do really wish there was more creative missions like this in WT, in all modes. That I understand, I guess I meant that often theres only destroyers on the field and they frequently guarded convoys. Naval is on life support as it is, submarines could quite possibly finish it off. Maybe they will be added, but they will be a mistake. In any case, even for destroyers and other ships which can theoretically counter subs, they have responsibilities and vulnerabilities on the surface too, and it's probably not going to be enjoyable for them to have to drop everything and go after a submarine. Or at least, it won't be fun for anyone other than the submarine player. It's simply not going to be fun, no matter how fun it may be in other games. There shouldn't be a mechanic in game that can't be countered - period. For example, British destroyers at 4.7 (aside from an event vehicle) to my knowledge, lack depth charges entirely, let alone any ship above that BR. As I said, a lot of ships, some destroyers even, won't be able to counter subs at all. Yes, dying is inevitable at some point or another in the game, but I really don't think it'd be fun to be killed by something silently lobbing torpedoes at you when you could've done next to nothing about it. ![]() And even then, that class is truly hated. Ship-to-ship battles where submarines took part in were extremely rare and that other ship game only pulls it off because of the super arcade-y features which obviously won't be implemented here. I'm not sure how it's vague - subs were almost entirely limited to convoy raiding and other such duties. There is a very large hype for subs, I doubt they will not be added tbh. They carry vary limited torpedos and could be limited more for gameplay's sake. I doubt they would be anymore annoying than bombers. Also, subs would likely be slow and have limited ammo. I'd also love to hunt them in a destroyer. I would love to die to a submarine in a ship without depth charges tbh. "Didn't take part in the sorts of naval battles that appear in this game" is very vague and if given the breadth necessary for it to be accurate, applies to many many ships in the game. My concern isn't that subs would be boring to play against, my concern is that they'd be downright unfun and drive even more people away from naval. Maybe it's fun in other games that are PvE (and therefore the bots can't complain) but idk how it would fare in War Thunder. Especially if it's a class that by and large didn't take part in the sorts of naval battles that appear in this game. IMO, there shouldn't be a class that's invulnerable to large swathes of ships in the game. What can they do? I don't really wanna hear "just spawn in a different ship bro". Not every ship has depth charges or anti-sub countermeasures. I mean, I think it's entirely possible that it would be fun to play as the sub, but against them? That's where the issue is for me. Speaking of meaningless, the depth charges are currently useless. I play a few ww2 naval sims that include this like "War on the Sea." Chasing subs is super fun and I crave it in WT, especially since they have depth charges already. I don't understand how people are saying boring and meaningless when we have sub chasers with depth charges. id love to play a destroyer looking for subs.
